Originally a businessman from West Michigan, Herman Miller helped his son-in-law, D.J. De Pree, buy the Michigan Star Furniture Company in 1923. The Michigan Star Furniture company soon became the brand we know today as Herman Miller. By the 1950s, the name had already become widely known as a market leader, an innovator, and still is today. With manufacturing facilities in the United States, China, Italy, and the UK, Herman Miller's reach extends to over one hundred countries, and shows no signs of stopping there. In honour of the king of modern ergonomic design, we're breaking down a few of its more famous ergonomic designs.

Herman Miller Aeron Chair

Arguably their most famous office chair design, and most sought after, the Aeron Chair is the pinnacle of modern ergonomic office chairs. Nothing really compares to it, because of the high quality design, the materials used in its manufacturing, and the seemingly endless list of adjustable features. The Aeron adapts naturally and adjusts precisely to fit people of all sizes, and postures, doing all kinds of activities. Its adjustable features include a height adjustable seat, a tilting mechanism with back locking, adjustable armrests, and adjustable lumbar support, to name just a few.

Boasting a rare Posturefit backrest, the Mirra chair looks unusual at first glance, but it's like a dream to sit in! Its breathable backrest supports, aerates, and comforts your back, which is the most common part of the body people have complaints with, when it comes to office chairs. Its other adjustable features include seat height adjustment, a forward tilt mechanism with tilt limiter, seat depth adjustment, and height adjustable armrests. Furthermore, like the Aeron above, its mesh seat can be found in various colours.

Known for its versatility, the Setu Chair is equally suitable to use as an operator, meeting, visitor, or boardroom chair. This means no matter the setting, the Setu chair will adapt, making it highly sought after in its own right. One of Herman Miller's more practical designs, it is also more affordable than most of the brand's chairs. Its features include a supportive mesh finish, gas height adjustment, fixed armrests, and an alloy five star castor base.
