Modern Office Desks: A Variety of Styles
If you’re in need of new modern office desks it can be tough to know which style to go for as there are so many variations. Although there are so many models to choose from in the modern day, we’ve boiled these choices down to three main categories for simplicity. These three main office desk styles cater for practically any type of modern office worker’s needs, so let’s begin the rundown!
Original Basic Office Desks
The traditional office desk has a simple design, opting for simple straight lines and practical features rather than extravagance. The simple rectangular wooden desk top sits atop wooden panel legs, or a steel cantilever frame, and that’s that. Simple but effective.
Over the years this design has evolved. These innovations include different base type options, finishes, sizes, and cable management options, like portholes, as the age of the desktop computer emerged. Three of the most popular variations on the classic desk design which continue to be popular today include corner desks, wave desks, and the desk with fixed storage pedestal.
Modern Bench Style Desk
In recent years the bench desk style of office desk has become more prevalent in the contemporary office work-space. This is primarily because of its highly practical shared leg system, which allows you to save on floor space, and so is perfect for larger teams, especially if they need to communicate quickly and efficiently.
Furthermore, the bench design allows for more leg room beneath the desk. These desks have also helped a variety of desk leg styles to emerge too, but the most common styles are the tried and tested goal post leg, the 'A' frame leg, and the square leg.
Adjustable Sit/Stand Office Desk
The most recent addition to the world of office desk designs was inspired by the desire to optimise human health. Scientific studies have shown how beneficial it is for us to not be seated for long periods of time. So, bring on the sit/stand desk, also known as the adjustable desk desk, the height adjustable desk, and the ergonomic desk. It was designed to and has since been proven to lower the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, reduce sick leave by minimising injuries, reduce user stress, help workers stay focused, and improve productivity.
Some of the rudimentary sit/stand desk designs were adjusted manually via a crank handle, but now this is more commonly achieved via an electric touch-pad. These ergonomic desks allow each individual user to find the best seated height for their specific body type, and of course, to stand while working, which helps promote better blood circulation, and an all-round healthier working lifestyle.
