Office Furniture London: Top 5 Trends
As we enter the last quarter of 2024, we thought we’d look back at the most popular trends that have emerged within the world of office furniture in London. As with all industries in the modern era, styles and demands change quickly, so you might not be aware of some the latest movements to take the capital by storm.
Sustainable Materials
One surefire positive change in London’ office furniture industry has been an inclination towards using more sustainable materials in the manufacture and use of office furniture. This is not unique to the office furniture world, of course, with humanity in general trying to provide a more sustainable future for itself.
The rise in the use of recyclable plastics and metals has gone hand-in-hand with a rise in people choosing to purchase second-hand office furniture instead of new.
Ergonomic Innovations in Office Furniture London
Arguably the most used buzz word in the industry over the last few years has been the word, 'ergonomic'. It relates to the design and manufacture of furniture with a view to improving the health, comfort, and productivity of the modern office worker.
Ergonomic office chairs are the most sought-after item, understandably, as us office workers tend to remain sedentary for much of the day. They often have more adjustable features than your basic average office chair. Furthermore, recent years has seen a huge spike in popularity for the ergonomic or ‘height adjustable’ office desk (see below for more details).
Sit/Stand Working
The sit/stand desk, also known as the adjustable desk, the height adjustable desk, and the ergonomic desk, was designed to allow working while you stand, to help encourage a healthier working lifestyle in the office. Sit/stand working has since been proven to lower the risk of musculoskeletal disorders, reduce sick leave by minimising injuries, reduce user stress, help workers stay focused, and improve productivity.
Some of the more rudimentary sit/stand desk designs were adjusted manually via a crank handle, but now this is more commonly achieved via an electric touch-pad.
Home Office/Hybrid Working
Since the lock-downs due to the corona virus, working from home has become much more commonplace, especially in London. Many office workers are now either based at home completely, or they split their time between home and the office, also known as ‘hybrid working’.
Meeting Booths
Meeting booths, meeting pods, acoustic booths/pods, and meeting room pods. These are all names for a booth, which is at-least-partially closed off from the outside world. All the rage in modern office spaces, particularly in central London, these booths allow for more privacy when working alone, or when conducting meetings.
A truly modern item, the meeting booth is designed with comfort, productivity, and sustainability in mind. They often feature acoustic panelled walls to keep distracting sounds out, cushioned seating for comfort, and power modules/data access points for practicality when working/conducting meetings.
